A Finite Element Formulation for Analysis of Composite Laminate Shells
Abstract
In this paper the formulation of a new triangular facet shell element for analysis of composite laminate shell structures is presented. The element formulation is based on a combination of degenerate shell theory and the use of an assumed shear strain field. The thickness interpolation is based on a linear layer-wise approximation. The tickness degrees of freedom are eliminated at assembly level using a substructuring technique. An example of the good behaviour of the element is presented.
