Estimado/a colega

	Nos complace invitarlo/a al IV Congreso Internacional de Matemática Aplicada 
a la Ingeniería y Enseñanza de la Matemática en Ingeniería(IN-MAT 2008) a 
realizarse del 4 al 7 de agosto de 2008 en la Facultad de Ingeniería de la 
Universidad de Buenos Aires, Paseo Colón 850, Ciudad Autónoma de Buenos 
Aires, Argentina.
	Desde 2001 la Facultad de Ingeniería de la Universidad de Buenos Aires ha 
tenido como inquietud convocar a una reunión de carácter internacional de 
Matemática para la Ingeniería que contemple tanto el aspecto 
tecnológico-científico como el aspecto educativo. Los objetivos principales 
de estas convocatorias son:

* Promover la creación de vínculos entre investigadores y profesores cuyo 
trabajo se encuadre en Matemática Aplicada a la Ingeniería y en la Enseñanza 
de Matemática en carreras de Ingeniería, de diferentes instituciones 
nacionales o internacionales.
* Fortalecer los contactos con las universidades cuyos representantes hayan 
asistido a los congresos anteriores.
* Generar un ámbito de encuentro y debate para los investigadores que trabajan 
en problemas de Matemática Aplicada a la Ingeniería.
* Dar a conocer avances en desarrollos de Matemática para diferentes diseños 
de Ingeniería.
* Promover el debate del rol de la Matemática en la educación para la 
Ingeniería y su papel en el desarrollo de las habilidades del ingeniero.
* Intercambiar resultados de métodos didácticos apropiados para la enseñanza 
de la Matemática en las carreras de Ingeniería.

-- Áreas temáticas
El congreso comprende dos áreas que por sus características serán 
desarrolladas, en general, en sesiones paralelas.

- Matemática Aplicada a la Ingeniería 
Control. Ecuaciones diferenciales: métodos de integración numéricos. 
Optimización. Probabilidades. Estadística. Modelización e identificación de 
fenómenos físicos y procesos tecnológicos. Análisis numérico. Sistemas 
dinámicos. Procesamiento de señales. Sistemas complejos.

- Enseñanza de la Matemática en Ingeniería
Diseño curricular del área de Matemática en las carreras de Ingeniería.
Enseñanza de Matemática en las carreras de Ingeniería. Posibilidad de la 
creación de la carrera de grado Ingeniería Matemática. Relación entre la 
Universidad y la enseñanza de la Matemática en el nivel secundario.

-- Presentación de trabajos
Los interesados/as en presentar trabajos en el Congreso deberán enviar un 
resumen extendido de 5 ó 6 páginas para su evaluación a inmat at fi.uba.ar.
Los formatos del resumen extendido se encuentran disponibles en la página del 
Congreso www.fi.uba.ar/inmat/inmat_08. La aceptación o no del resumen será 
comunicada a los interesados por correo electrónico. Para la presentación de 
los trabajos se deberá optar por una comunicación oral de 20 minutos o la 
presentación de un póster. Los trabajos aceptados se publicarán en los Anales 
del Congreso.
Para facilitar la clasificación de los trabajos para su evaluación, 
solicitamos que los autores informen en el mail de envío del resumen 
extendido:
1) Modo de presentación (comunicación oral o póster)
2) Área (Aplicada o Enseñanza)
3) Si el área fuera Aplicada, de ser posible, indicar una subárea dentro de 
las mencionadas más arriba.

-- Inscripción
La inscripción al Congreso tendrá un costo de u$s 300 si se realiza antes del 
6 de junio de 2008 y de u$S 350 si se realiza posteriormente. Está previsto 
un sistema de ayuda económica, para solicitar información sobre este tema 
enviar un e-mail a inmat at fi.uba.ar.

-- Fechas Importantes
7 de marzo de 2008: vencimiento de la presentación de los resúmenes 
extendidos.
30 de mayo de 2008: comunicar a los autores el resultado de la evaluación del 
resumen.
6 de junio de 2008: fecha límite para solicitar ayuda económica.

1st Announcement

Dear Colleague,

	We are pleased to invite you to the IV International Congress on  Applied 
Mathematics in Engineering and Teaching of Mathematics in Engineering (IN-MAT 
2008) that will take place on August 4th to 7th, 2008 at the Engineering 
School of the Universidad de Buenos Aires, Paseo Colón 850, Buenos Aires, 
Argentina.
	Since 2001, the Engineering School of the Universidad de Buenos Aires has 
organized international meetings on Mathematics for Engineering. The aim of 
these meetings has been on one hand to study the technological-scientific 
topics related with the application of Mathematics to cope with Engineering 
problems, as well as to discuss the educational aspects of teaching 
Mathematics for Engineering programs. Therefore, this conference aims at:

* Promoting the creation of new collaborations between researchers and faculty 
members whose work is framed in Applied Mathematics in Engineering and 
Teaching of Mathematics in the Engineering curricula, from different national 
or international institutions.
* Strengthening the relationship with universities representatives of which 
have attended previous conferences.
* To make progress in the development of Mathematics in different branches of 
Engineering.
* Promoting the debate on the role of Mathematics in Engineering education and 
on its role in the development of the engineer skills.
* Exchanging results on teaching methods appropriate for the teaching of 
Mathematics in Engineering programs.

-- Areas of interest
The congress comprises two areas that will be developed, in general, in 
parallel sessions. Among the subareas of interest we highlight the ones 
described below.

- Applied Mathematics in Engineering
Control. Differential Equations: Numerical Methods of Integration. 
Optimization. Probabilities. Statistics. Modeling and Identification of 
Physical Phenomena and Technological Processes. Numerical Analysis. Dynamical 
Systems. Signal Processing. Complex Systems.

- Mathematical Education in Engineering
Curricula design of the area of Mathematics in careers in Engineering.
Mathematics Instruction in careers in Engineering. Possibility of creation of 
a degree in Engineering Mathematics. Relationship between the University and 
the teaching of Mathematics at the secondary level.

-- Call for papers
Authors are invited to submit an extended abstract of 5 or 6 pages for its 
consideration to inmat at fi.uba.ar. The format of the extended abstract is 
available in the website of the Congress www.fi.uba.ar/inmat/inmat_08.

The acceptance of the abstract will be communicated to the authors by e-mail. 
The accepted papers will be presented by any of its authors either as an oral 
communication of 20 minutes or by the presentation of a poster.
The accepted papers will be published in the Annals of Congress.

To facilitate the evaluation of papers, we request the authors to send 
together with the extended abstract the following information:
1) Presentation mode (oral communication or poster)
2) Area (Applied or Education)
3) In case of selecting the Applied area, indicate, if possible, a subarea 
within the mentioned above.

-- Registration
The registration fee to the Congress will be U$S 300 American dollars if paid 
before  June 6 2008 and U$S 350 American dollars if paid later. A system of 
economic aid is being considered. To request more information on this topic
