Dear Colleagues,

It is a pleasure to announce the 5th LNCC Meeting on Computational
Modeling, which will be held at the National Laboratory
for Scientific Computing (LNCC-MCTI), a research unit of the Brazilian
Ministry of Science, Technology and Innovation, located
in the historical city of Petrópolis, in the state of Rio de Janeiro,
Brazil, from July 16 to 19, 2012. The meeting will gather
members of the national and international research community, at
various levels, as well as industry representatives to discuss
the state of the art in computational modeling and identify new
research challenges and opportunities.

In its 5th edition, the LNCC Meeting expects to build on successful
previous experiences in establishing an inspiring
and stimulating forum for researchers interested in Scientific
Computation and applications in complex problems involving
multi-disciplinary research of scientific and technological relevance.
Previous versions of this event happened in 2004,
2006 and 2008. The 2010 edition was composed by a series of events to
celebrate the LNCC 30th year anniversary. Since
its foundation in 1980, the LNCC has been playing the role of
integrator of interdisciplinary activities involving research,
development and human resources education in Computational Modeling.

The scientific program of the 5th LNCC Meeting consists of invited
plenary and mini-symposia keynote lectures,
as well as contributed oral and poster presentations. The Mini-
symposia will cover topics such as, but not limited to:
• Stabilized and Multi-Scale Finite Element Methods
• Topological Derivatives in Computational Modeling
• Diffusive and Wave Propagation Processes
• Multiscale and Stochastic Modeling of Coupled Phenomena in Porous
Media
• Modeling and Functional Aspects of Marine and Coastal Ecosystems
• Medicine Assisted by Scientific Computing
• Stochastic Methods in Finance
• Signal Processing in the Information Society
• Cloud Management
• Climate and Weather Predictability
• Massive Data Management
• High Performance Computing
